Emerging from the Chrysalis

Imagine the power of both transformation and emergence that could happen in your life.

My neighbor watched in amazement as a butterfly emerged from its chrysalis in her garden and sent me the photo that you see here. Wow!

Ever have that feeling of being “soupy”? I have, more times than I can count.

I imagine that’s what a caterpillar must feel when it’s in that stage of goop before its complete and total transformation into a butterfly.

Somehow, miraculously and synchronicitously (if that’s a word), I had a conversation with someone who believed in me when I felt like I was drowning in goop, at a time when I didn’t believe in myself.

That gave me the encouragement I needed to take what had formerly seemed like a big scary step.

Do you think caterpillars worry about what’s happening to them? I doubt it.

Having someone tell you they believe in you — and tell you WHY they do — can completely give you the courage to say yes to what you want.

That conversation we had was surprisingly intense! All the insecure feelings I’d been trying to keep down came to the surface (apparently they were waiting to do that).

But once I was able to look directly at those scary feelings, it became clear that I’d been responding from old habits of self doubt and reactivity rather than proactivity (another word I think I made up).

So when I looked again from a fresh perspective that I was encouraged to adopt, I got a glimpse of what was possible by getting into action, the feelings dissolved as if by magic.

And if it can happen to me, it can happen to you.

You don’t need to “believe in yourself” — because usually that self refers to actions you took in the past.

Instead, it refers to who you are in this moment, your real time responsiveness, which is always connected to possibility and untapped potential.

And now that I’ve taken that encouragement to heart and made things happen that I never expected, I have complete confidence in saying that you have access to those same inherent capacities too — in your own way and in your own time.

Let yourself emerge from your own chrysalis and discover a whole new world where instead of crawling, you can fly!
